Helping Humanity Project

Can California "pave the way" for reducing the air pollution?

New rules came in effect in California that required the companies that produce household cleaners to reduce the amount of smog forming compounds, called volatile organic compounds, in order to reduce the amount of air pollution. It is said that "the new standards will reduce emissions by nearly 7 tons per day, which is the equivalent of removing half a million cars from California's roads." If the world follows California's example, we could reduce the air pollution.

"Air pollution is currently the world's largest single environmental health risk, according to the World Health Organization." If we could reduce air pollution, we could prevent major health risks. Other countries have taken action, seeing California's example, and decided to build structures that will keep the smog out of our air. In 2015 a building unveiled in Milan that absorbs certain pollutants. "In direct sunlight, the active principle contained in the material "captures" certain pollutants present in the air and converts them into inert salts, helping to purify the atmosphere from smog," according to Italcementi. As chemical engineers would could aid in the process of cleaning up air pollution by helping produce cleaning agents that are less harmful to the environment. In addition, we could help make the green movement a reality by putting the projects of earth cleanup on a bigger scale.
